[会议背景介绍]

You are cordially invited to participate in The 91st Textile Institute World Conference (TIWC) 2018, which this year is being hosted by the School of Design at the University of Leeds. The conference theme “Integrating Design with Sustainable Technology” is focused on identifying and establishing interdisciplinary engagement in the textile manufacturing and retail industry through the various fields of technology, design, sustainability, research and economy. The theme has evolved out of a recognition that there are clear synergies when design and sustainable technology are effectively integrated to produce commercial solutions for better aesthetics and functionality. The Textiles Industry is diverse and to maximise success the whole value chain needs ongoing innovation and investment and the conference will draw from the application and use of Textiles in all aspects of everyday life.

Sixty years ago the Clothworkers’ South Building (Originally known as the “Manmade Fibres Building”) was opened and on top of the building was a vision pointing the way for Textiles. Professor J. B. Speakman, Head of the Department of Textile Industries, and the famous American sculptress Mitzi Cunliffe had collaborated to create a sculpture featuring two monumental hands with a striking weave motif cradled between them, reflecting the exciting developments in synthetic fibres that the new building represented. Their vision represented one of the earliest collaborations where a technologist and a designer worked together to create an iconic statement. In looking forward from the 20th century to the 21st century it is now apparent that by effectively integrating design, technology and sustainability a new generation of functionalised “designer” textile solutions can be created from a range of sustainable materials and technologies. That integrated textiles vision extends from sportswear to healthcare to aerospace composites to nanotechnology to as far as your imagination can take you. This concept is eloquently articulated through the Conference logo where Speakman and Cunliffe originally brought these disciplines together beautifully!

The 91st Textile Institute World Conference, hosted by the School of Design at the University of Leeds, will provide a focus on Integrating Design with Sustainable Technology. The aim is to identify and establish interdisciplinary engagement in the textile manufacturing and retail industry through the various fields of technology, design, research and economy.

The theme has evolved out of a recognition that there are clear synergies when design and sustainable technology are effectively integrated to produce commercial products with better aesthetics and functionality. The Textiles Industry is diverse and to maximise success the whole supply chain needs ongoing innovation and investment and the conference will draw from the application and use of Textiles in all aspects of everyday life. Abstracts are now invited for both Oral and Poster presentation. Research presentations should cover current investigations which look to future trends and visions in all possible textile applications. Below is a list of the main topics which are based on the scope of the Institute.
